The city of Cusco since its origins and throughout its history, has occupied a prominent place in the cultural development of Peru. Founded between the XI and XII centuries, Cusco became the capital of the Inca Empire and was the axis of the great territorial expansion of the Tahuantinsuyu. The Spanish foundation of Cusco took place in March 1534, ordered by Francisco Pizarro.
During the Viceroyalty, large mansions, imposing churches and convents with a profusion of works of art inside were built on Inca foundations.
The Hispanic-Andean cultural fusion is manifested in Cusco in its maximum intensity, both through its architecture and its population, which proudly preserves its traditional customs. All this is combined with a wonderful natural environment. Visiting Cusco is therefore an unforgettable experience.
Among the great variety of tourist resources it has, those of a cultural, scenic, esoteric, adventure and entertainment nature stand out. There are daily excursions in the afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. during which time the following sites are visited:
The Temple of Koricancha: (Currently the Temple of Santo Domingo or Temple of the Sun).
An important place during the Incan period. The Church of Santo Domingo was built on its Inca walls.
Koricancha is an exceptional witness to the fusion of the Inca and Western cultures, being one of the most important temples of the Tahuantinsuyu. Its walls of finely polished stone served as a foundation for the construction of the Convent of Santo Domingo. The temple, whose sumptuous walls are said to have been covered with sheets of gold and silver, was dedicated to the cult of the sun, sometimes housing images of the Thunder and Wiracocha, deities brought from different regions and mummies of rulers. The cult inside the temple was restricted to the highest personalities of the time and representatives of the non-Inca populations of the entire Empire came from far away to worship and pay tribute to the gods of Tahuantinsuyu.
.
The Cathedral:
Built in the 16th century, it has a baroque style with a precious altar of seven tons of silver.
The Sacsayhuamán Fortress:
It is a masterpiece of unique structure. This construction is attributed to the Incas of the last dynasties, it is located next to the Temple of San Cristóbal or Qolcampata, in the upper part of the city. According to the chroniclers, it was a solar shrine, others attribute it to a place of defense of the city; the Spanish were the ones who gave it the name of Fortress, for which reason it was a place of defense of the city.
People come from all over the world to learn about and personally experience the path that the majestic Incas walked more than five hundred years ago.
